ClueNet:VHosts
From ClueWiki
Cluenet supports user vHosts via HostServ, but we do discourage vHosts without a reason. On IRC, /msg HostServ help for how to request one.
Although ClueNet does allow vHosts, we do have rules and recommendations about vhosts. A vHost may be rejected on the basis of one of the below guidelines. Ask a councilor or CTA in #clueirc for more info, if necessary. These same rules apply to reverse DNS hosts.
Note that if all you want to do is hide your host, you can set usermode +x yourself.
Bad vhosts
- ...DNS spam, such as: i.love.long.lame.vhosts or i.have.an.awesome.vhost.lol.users.cluenet.org
- ...do not follow relevant Clueful Chatting guidelines: l33tz0rz.example.com
- ...intentionally spoof existing domains owned by an unassociated organization: myvhost.fbi.gov
- ...contain profanity: fuck.you.co.cc
- ...are intentionally misleading: services.cluenet.org
- ...suggest you have power, when indeed you do not: 192.168.0.1, localhost, etc.
Acceptable vhosts
- ...your web site's domain name: mypersonalsite.net
- ...clearly are vhosts that include your nick: joe.vhosts.cluenet.org
- ...include the domain name of your workplace's web site: billg.microsoft.com (As if anyone here would work for Microsoft...)
- ...don't violate the above rules that include your ISP's host: joe.myleetisp.com
- ...indicate your position in Cluenet: opers.cluenet.org or users.cluenet.org
